Safety
at Home
- Have all emergency phone numbers posted in a location known
by the entire family.
- Teach kids how to dial 911 and how to respond when someone answers.
- Give your home regular safety checkups. Regular maintenance
and simple repairs can help avoid serious accidents.
- Have fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide alarms, and smoke alarms
handy. Show your kids where they are located and how to operate
them.
- Make it a daily habit to pick up and put away toys, newspapers,
magazines, shoes and other clutter that can cause falls. Kids
should take part!
- Have a fire escape plan—practice it regularly with the
entire family.
- Tape or mark all glass doors with decorative decals so theyre
easy for everyone to see.
- Store medicines, household cleaners, disinfectants and insecticides
out of reach.
- Teach kids to tell you if someone tries to touch them in a way
that makes them uncomfortable.
- Insist that your children always tell you where they are, with
whom and when they will return.
